What is in ION* Gut Health?

ION* Gut Health is a daily supplement derived from a mineral called Terrahydrite. The bottle contains purified water, the soil-based mineral supplement Terrahydrite, trace soil amino acids, and minerals. The purified water is deionized reverse osmosis water, so the entire product is incredibly pure. 

What ION* Gut Health Does:

ION*s one-of-a-kind formula creates the ideal environment in the gut for the tight junctions (cell membrane) to heal. A leaky gut is caused by loosening these tight junctions, which may result in various health concerns. By strengthening the intestinal tissue, ION* helps maintain peak human health.

Why did you change the ingredients in ION*?

We have NOT changed the ingredients or our formula, which remains exactly as it was at its inception in 2012. The only thing that has changed about ION* is how we refer to and measure our ingredients.

While our previous ingredient name, “aqueous humic substances”, is accurate in a broader categorical sense, “humic extract” is more specific to our unique product.

The term “humic substances” is often used to describe organic material composed of humic, fulvic, and humin. So, while we do utilize some of the material from humic substances, we do not use it all, and to avoid customer confusion and remain as transparent as possible, we have decided to make it clear that ION* is an extract of humic, hence “humic extract”.

For instance, in the same way that vanilla extract goes through a process to obtain the valuable part from the vanilla bean, we extract the useful part of humic substances. We no longer refer to it as humic substances, much like you would not refer to vanilla extract as vanilla bean.

Our proprietary Terrahydrite® extraction and isolation process makes ION* distinctly different from other humic substances available on the market today, and “humic extract” helps not only to better distinguish us but to better inform you.

What is humic extract?

The same thing it’s always been. Humic extract isn’t bacteria but a family of molecules made by bacteria. Our balanced formula includes this unique family of carbon molecules with oxygen-binding sites produced by bacteria when they digest nutrients. We extract our humic from ancient, fossilized soil, sometimes referred to as Leonardite.

When we say “humic extract, " we mean we are literally extracting from humic substances. However, few people know what humic substances are.

The term “humic substances” covers a range of complex materials used to drive human health for thousands of years. Humic substances result from the degradation of organic material and are abundant in fossilized soil layers worldwide. As plant material degrades and is compressed over millions of years, it becomes rich, organic material called Leonardite. This is the source from which we extract our active ingredient.

Our humic extract differs from other extracts of humic substances, like isolated fulvic and humic acids. To isolate fulvic and humic acid, the chemical nature of the humic substances is altered, breaking down the fossilized communication network of bacterial metabolites and thereby removing the intelligence from that rich ancient ecosystem. The extraction process used to create ION*, however, is the only process of its kind in the world, seeking not to destroy, but to embrace that innate communicative ability.

Why has the dosing for ION* changed?

The amount per serving for our active ingredient, “aqueous humic substances,” was 150 mg on our previous label. However, now that we have changed our active ingredient to “humic extract,” the new amount per serving is 5mg.

Again, the formula, dosing, and serving size have not changed. However, how we measure our ingredients has become more accurate thanks to the availability of more accurate testing. We now measure the amount of humic extract present in each serving of ION*. 

While previously, we were calculating the amount of ION* molecules together with their water shell, which is held together via hydrogen bonding, we can now measure the amount of humic extract more accurately without the water shell. This is 5mg per serving of ION*.

Moving to the actual weight of humic extract is a more readily understood, measurable, and transparent view of our ingredients. 

What happened to Terrahydrite®?

Terrahydrite® still relates to our proprietary process of pulling the very best components out of the ancient soil source of humic extract, which differentiates us. However, we found that using the term Terrahydrite in the supplement facts panel made it difficult for people to differentiate between the ingredients and the finished product since Terrahydrite is a proprietary name for our finished ION* Gut Support product. We will still nod to our innovative blend in certain places, just not in the supplement facts panel, where we seek to add a new level of transparency around our ingredients.
