A new year is always an excellent opportunity to re-evaluate and re-direct your life in the way you want to go forth. So if your goal for 2022 is cultivating more emotional wellbeing, look no further than today’s article to give you the tools and tips you need.
What is Emotional Health?
Emotional health is essentially how you think, feel, and navigate your life. It encompasses many things, including your emotions as well as your self-talk. These things play an enormous role in how your day-to-day life goes since it influences how you feel, react, and progress through life.
Emotional health is your sense of wellbeing. Some questions to check in with your emotional health include:
- How do you feel first thing upon waking?
- How do you react to conflict?
- How do you feel when you are alone?
- How do you feel when you are in social or group situations?
- Can you fall asleep with relative ease?
- How do you talk to yourself (how do you react to yourself)?
- How do you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror?
Various negative or difficult emotions arise for many people when going through the list of questions above. Of course, negative or difficult emotions are not to be avoided, and in fact, they are potent tools to point us in the direction of growth. However, we should not be feeling negative, anxious, or destructive feelings when we think about ourselves or our life on a daily basis.
If we do, this suggests that there is some work to do to return to our more natural, balanced, peaceful state of being.
Emotional health is deeply connected to physical health and vice-versa. They have a bi-directional relationship. For example, many mood-related hormones are made in the gut. Your physical health influences your emotional health, and your emotions also directly impact your physical well-being!
Ways to Cultivate Emotional Health
1. Gut Health
So many critical mood-stabilizing hormones are made in your gut. Gut health is one of the essential physical pillars to cultivating emotional health. Although achieving a healthy gut is a bio-individual process that depends on where you’re at, a few vital universal factors include:
- Removing inflammatory and allergenic foods from your diet (commonly refined sugars, gluten, and dairy)
- Removing gut-killing agents from your life (including toxins and anti-bacterial agents like harsh soaps, chlorinated water, and antibiotics)
- Introducing prebiotic and probiotic-rich foods
- Optimizing digestion with tools like slowing down, being present with your food, chewing correctly, avoiding liquids during meals, and considering a digestive aid supplement
Probiotics
Probiotic-rich foods include fermented foods like sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, and beetroot kvass. You can also breathe in probiotics while spending time in nature! Taking a high-quality probiotic can help introduce good bacteria into your gut. You can cycle on a probiotic supplement for a period of about 3-months, and then you can switch to another brand or simply take a break.
MegaSporeBiotic is a probiotic blend of 5 Bacillus spores that have been clinically shown to maintain healthy gut barrier function and overall immunity. The bi-phasic life cycle of the Bacillus spores allows them to remain dormant in harsh environments until they reach more favorable environments like the human gastrointestinal tract. Once inside the large intestine, these dormant spores can change into active, vegetative forms and begin colonizing in the gut. This unique probiotic blend aims to recondition the gut instead of reseeding with probiotic strains that cannot survive digestion or colonize the gut.
Digestive Supports
There are many digestive supports, including bitters, digestive enzymes, and HCL pepsin. We love Atrantil because it is an all-natural product containing M. Balsamea Willd extract, Quebracho extract, and Conker Tree extract, which work together to relieve bloating and abdominal discomfort caused by gas in the gut.
Instead of just treating symptoms or introducing new bacteria in the gut, Atrantil addresses the root cause of bloating by attacking the problematic gas-causing bacteria. You can use digestive supports like Atrantil with meals to help your body break down foods, digest and absorb them properly.
Ion Biome
ION*Gut Health is a gut-strengthening, brain-boosting mineral supplement sourced from 60-million-year-old soil that naturally supports microbiome balance. In addition, Terrahydrite® may support gut integrity, even with damage from toxins like glyphosate.
This mineral supplement comes from the soil and is scientifically proven to help protect the gut wall against toxins 2. By helping to heal the gut wall, ION* helps to improve your gut bacteria and overall health. A healthy gut flora works to restore and protect our physical and mental health.
ION*Sinus is a rinse for clearing dust, pollen, and other air-born environmental irritants that we are exposed to every day. It’s your ally in combating hay fever and in caring for the starting point of your gut. Think of it as strengthening your very first line of defense.
Given the harmful impacts of many modern-day realities (including air pollution, GMOs, antibiotics, and herbicides like Glyphosate), everyone can benefit from the gut healing and immune-boosting abilities of Restore. Restore’s proprietary blend is like nothing else on the market and revolutionizes our ability to truly heal the gut.
2. Vitamin D
Vitamin D plays a crucial role in generating emotional wellbeing. Although called a vitamin, it behaves more like a hormone in the body. Your muscles, heart, brain, and immune system all have vitamin D receptors. The body transports vitamin D to the kidneys and liver, where it is then converted into an active hormone.
Low vitamin D levels are associated with many mental health problems, including schizophrenia in adults, depression, premenstrual symptoms, and seasonal affective disorder 3.
DV3 - VITAMIN D3 PLUS IMMUNE SUPPORT
The DV3 vitamin D3 supplement is paired with other immune-modulating nutrients like magnesium, calcium, vitamin A, and zinc to provide full-spectrum support to reduce inflammation. In addition, liver and kidney supporting herbs like grape seed and turmeric help support the organs that convert vitamin D into its active hormonal form inside the body.
3. Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a polyphenol compound known as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective agent. It helps regulate brain functions and improves the behavioral factors associated with learning, anxiety, depression, and memory 4.
ROX Super Antioxidant with Resveratrol
ROX Resveratrol’s super antioxidant formula supports health and longevity, utilizing nature's most potent antioxidant ingredients. ROX is a nutritional supplement designed to put more “life” into your years. It is formulated to contain molecular signals that have been shown to stabilize and protect normal cellular function. ROX also provides all the nutrients necessary to carry out cellular rebuilding and protection as directed by the molecular signals, supporting healthy, stable moods and emotional wellbeing.
4. Self-Care
Self-care is a commonly used term at the moment as we seem to, as a collective, realize how much we have been neglecting ourselves. Focusing so much on productivity, caring for our family and friends, and achieving external goals, the simplicity of self-care often falls by the wayside.
Self-care does not have to be complicated or take hours. Making simple moments to look after yourself can look like many different things, including:
- Saying no when you feel like saying no
- Asking for a day off from work when you’re feeling overwhelmed with life
- Going to bed earlier than usual when you’re tired
- Taking a bath
- Turning off your cell phone for an entire day
- Self-massage
Lavender Whipped Body Butter
Having little self-care routines that are special to you can help anchor you back in your body and calm down your nervous system. For example, using a beautiful whipped body butter with calming oils like lavender, chamomile, and basil flower can be a five-minute wind-down routine at the end of your day that helps you reconnect and honor yourself.
5. Biohacking
Some fantastic gadgets on the market can help you fast-track your results regarding emotional health. Biohacking is essentially upgrading your biology using natural principles with modern technology. Some of the common tools that companies develop technology around include; light, heat, cold, and sound therapies.

6. Ask for Help
Although the last point, this is probably the most important for cultivating emotional health. Our modern society is as a whole so disconnected and promotes competition as a means of excelling and achieving in life. We build fences between properties, we tend to judge others’ wins as a reflection of our failures, and we live in a comparison and compete for culture.
Reclaiming natural mental and emotional health requires breaking down the barriers that we have built up, and reconnecting with people is a source of safety and support. In addition, seeking help and advice from those who have experienced similar problems can help destigmatize hardship and help us cultivate knowledge to overcome our own challenges.
Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; in fact, such a vulnerability is one of the most significant signs of growth and strength.
